ElaadNL: Masterclass 'Smart charging from car to truck'

Opening
This Masterclass was opened by Mr ing. Richard van Heijningen with an introduction of the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI), the largest network for the 'Engineering Society' in the Netherlands.
KIVI is the professional association for engineers in the Netherlands. Within KIV, all engineering disciplines and engineers, at all stages of their careers, are represented.
Richard outlines the networking, support, coaching and training, which the Engineer at KIVI, can expect.
He then elaborates on the KIVI Department of Electrical Engineering with the development of the Energy Plan 2050 and the need to expand the capacity of the electricity grid.'
The latter ties in with the theme of the Masterclass "Smart charging from car to truck".
ElaadNL is the knowledge and innovation centre
ElaadNL is the knowledge and innovation centre in the field of smart charging infrastructure in the Netherlands.
Through their mutual involvement through ElaadNL, network operators are preparing for a future with electric driving and sustainable charging.
ElaadNL's emission is to ensure, that everyone can charge smartly. Elaad's task is to monitor the EV charging infrastructure and coordinate connections between public charging stations and the electricity grid.

Since 2009, Stichting E-laad has established a network of more than 3,000 public charging points for electric cars throughout the Netherlands.
In 2014, the foundation split its operations into two separate platforms: ElaadNL and EVnetNL.
In 2020, EVnetNL's charging points were transferred to PARKnCHARGE. ElaadNL continued foundation efforts to expand research and drive innovation in smart charging and the use of renewable energy for electric vehicles. On 8 June 2022, our King officially opened the Elaad Test Lab.
Here, in addition to passenger cars, larger and heavier electric vehicles such as buses and trucks and their charging infrastructure can be tested.

In this hybrid event, you were told about the role of Knowledge and Innovation Centre ElaadNL and what research is ongoing at the new test lab, among other things.
You were updated on the possibilities for Smart Charging: smart and sustainable charging of electric vehicles.

Onoph Caron - Director ElaadNL Foundation, member of the NAL steering group on behalf of grid operators
Speakers Bio:
Onoph Caron has been director of ElaadNL since 1 June 2010. ElaadNL is an initiative of the joint Dutch grid companies. ElaadNL installed the first 3,000 public charging stations throughout the Netherlands. The organisation now focuses entirely on developing and sharing knowledge and innovation on EV infrastructure and Smart Charging for Dutch grid operators. Topics ElaadNL is working on include standardisation, grid flexibility, V2G, cybersecurity, etc. Onoph is chairman of the board of the Open Charge Alliance (host of the now globally used OCPP Open Charge Point Protocol) and director of E-clearing.net (largest European Clearinghouse).

Presentation Testlab by Thijs van Wijk Manager Testlab
Thijs van Wijk - Handles EV testing in the new test facilities as Test Laboratory Manager.
Speaker Bio:
In the more than 10 years Thijs has worked for ElaadNL, he has gained a great deal of experience in testing electric vehicles, charging stations, and the impact of charging on the power grid. First in the context of preventing charging problems on the chargers of the e-laad.nl foundation, and later EVnetNL, after which he further expanded the testing work within the knowledge institution ElaadNL.
Currently, he is operational manager of the Elaad test lab, where electric vehicles are tested for interoperability, smart charging and power quality, in order to prevent charging problems and problems with the electricity grids. In addition, Thijs is active in several projects investigating in depth the specific influences of charging on the voltage quality of the grids. As background knowledge, Thijs has a bachelor in electrical engineering (HAN, 2004) and a master in Innovation Science (TU/e, 2006)

Rutger de Croon Manager Market Development ElaadNL
Speaker bio:
Rutger de Croon works at knowledge and innovation centre ElaadNL on behalf of Liander, one of the three major Dutch grid operators. He is part of the management team and is responsible for the Market Development department. Rutger works on providing insight into charging demand, charging behaviour and the impact of smart charging solutions. In cooperation with all grid operators in NL and the National Charging Infrastructure Agenda, he translates this into the short- and long-term grid impact of battery electric vehicles. Specific attention is paid to development in logistics, construction and aviation.
This Manager Market Development (and MT Member) has unique knowledge of all Smart Charging (market) developments currently underway, for connecting sustainable energy production with electric cars (Smart Charging). He combines this with extensive experience in the electricity market, at grid operators and with the power grid, which is crucial to ensure that our mission can be accomplished.

Presentation Home Energy Management System (all-electric house) by
Arjan Wargers Manager Innovation ElaadNL
Speaker Bio:
Arjan Wargers works at Enexis and from Innovation Enexis is responsible for innovations to seamlessly integrate new developments into the grids, with the main dossier being Electric Transport. Arjan has been working for ElaadNL since 2010. Within ElaadNL, he works as Manager Research & Innovation. Here, he researches new (charging) developments and techniques, mainly aimed at unlocking flexibility; smart charging. With his team, he contributes to the further development of these techniques, interoperability and cyber security. In addition, he is a board member of the Flexible Power Alliance Network (FAN) foundation, in which he further develops the connectivity of other potentially flexible devices (heat pump, home battery, solar panels) and connects them to the electric car. From Enexis, works as Manager Research and Innovation at ElaadNL Foundation and deals with Home Energy Management System (all-electric house), among others.
