Electricity system now and in the future
Power demand will increase about 3.5 times by 2050 due to extensive electrification.
TenneT is the operator of the Dutch high-voltage grid. By 2025, TenneT already invested more than €5.5 billion to increase capacity.
Alliander, its main task is the management of energy networks in parts of Gelderland, North Holland, Friesland, South Holland and Flevoland. This includes more than 90,000 kilometres of electricity network and 40,000 kilometres of gas network.
Essent is a commercial energy company focused on the generation and supply of energy and energy-related services.
TNO Digitisation of the energy system; The Netherlands is working on an energy system that is sustainable, affordable and reliable. Digitalisation plays an important role in this. This involves the deployment of digital and information technologies and their impact on the Energy System.
TenneT investment plan
TenneT aims to ensure the security of electricity supply and to cooperate in the development of an integrated and sustainable electricity market in north-western Europe. This is also the guiding principle in our daily work. We also ensure that electricity producers and consumers have access to the grid and meet the need for transmission capacity. To meet these tasks, TenneT invests in the high-voltage infrastructure. This Investment Plan (IP) describes and substantiates TenneT's planned investments for the vision period from 2026 to 2040.
