On 9 March 2019, the latest state of affairs was presented regarding the realisation of power plants with the principle of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP).
The public part of the meeting VZKC started at 15:00 with walk-in from 14:45, preceded by the AGM of the Solar Power Plants Association.

In 2009, internationally active companies from a wide range of industries joined forces with the already existing Desertec Foundation to establish the Desertec Industrial Initiative (Dii) summit.
At the beginning of this century, the idea of using giant solar power plants to produce renewable electricity in the sunlit deserts of North Africa and the Near East - for both the local and European electricity markets - emerged around the Club of Rome.

Background
Dhe Mr Christiaan Bartels worked for over 6 years as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at TSK Flagsol in Cologne - Germany, a leading engineering company very active in the design, construction supervision, commissioning, maintenance and management of CSP projects around the world.
He worked on several projects in Spain (e.g. Andasol-3 and Los Arenales) and the Middle East (e.g. Kuraymat in Egypt, Shagaya in Kuwait).
He then spent several years as Project Manager in the R&D department for, among others, solar tower and parabolic mirror projects at the Plataforma Solar in Algeria (PSA) in Spain.
Mr Paul van Son, Executive at innogy SE in charge of realising renewable projects in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. In addition, he is CEO of Dii Desert Energy in Dubai. Over a period of more than 35 years, Mr van Son held various management positions in the European energy sector, including Managing Director of Essent Renewables, Deutsche Essent (Germany) and Econcern (Netherlands).
Among other things, these companies have built a reputation as developers of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Mr van Son is co-founder and honorary chairman of the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET) and chairman of the Energy4All Foundation which is active with small-scale projects in Africa.

Mr van Son will present his latest book 'Energiewende in der Wüste', die Vision ist bereits Realität, and will also have some copies signed after the event. The book is on sale for €36.00 in bookshops.
