Holst Centre (Eindhoven)
Description
Technology research 3 to 10 years ahead of the market, Holst Centre is an independent research centre that seeks to bridge the gap between academic research and mass production through open innovation. Industrial companies from across the ecosystem and in-house people collaborate on new solutions with input from academic research. By having suppliers collaborate with device builders and IC designers with end-product manufacturers, each brings their own expertise and new products get to market faster and reduce the cost and risk inherent in research and development. Early market and validation studies can also be done of new concepts, for example with clinical partners. With 170 in-house employees and more than 50 residents from industry and university, new developments in the field of sensor networks and systems in foil are being worked on.
The Holst Centre was founded in 2005 by TNO and Flemish IMEC with support from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and approval from the Flemish Government. Holst Centre is named after Gilles Holst, the first director of Philips Research.
This afternoon, after a brief general presentation about Holst Centre, will focus on new technological concepts for improving personal health, treatment and support of chronic diseases and a healthier lifestyle.
