Description
Lely is an international manufacturer of leading innovations for the agricultural sector, operating in 60 countries. Its more than 1,600 employees are engaged in the production and development of various agricultural vehicles and advanced feeding and milking systems.
In the Netherlands, Lely has two locations: The main location in Maassluis is reserved for agricultural vehicles and the location we will visit in Rotterdam houses the solutions for milking, feeding, housing and care.
On our visit to Lely, we will first be shown around the factory. This will be done in two groups of 15, so there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Next, we will have two lectures:
Nico Berkhoudt - "Astronaut A4: High technology milking"
This lecture will address the technical challenges surrounding the Lely milking robot, e.g. use of 3D vision, complex controls, a barn environment with manure, dust and stubborn cows do not make the technical realisation easy.
Diego Mora - Sustainability
Lely has incorporated sustainability in its core business. This is translated into a strategy where the environmental and social impacts in the company and in its stakeholders are addressed in day to day operations. On another front the company is working on encouraging sustainable practices in dairy farming.
Several of the achievements in sustainability are directly linked to technology and innovation. An insight of this dynamic process will be presented on the visit to the company.
