New year meeting KIVI-EL and lectures
Our chairman ing. Richard van Heijningen welcomed the KIVI Electrical Engineering Department members present and wished everyone the best wishes for the new year in good health.
Briefly, he gave the state of affairs of the BO 2020 policy developments, which the KIVI Electrical Engineering Department has been going through from the end of 2015 and in 2016.
Richard then indicated the rapid developments taking place in the field of Electrical Engineering and that the Electrotechnology department's policy choice, made during the AGM with focusing on "Renewable Energy" and "Embedded Systems" (IoT), has been a right choice.
The department's activities are focusing on these, which is evident from the overview in the presentation.
This will also give big changes in the training of students at colleges and TUs. At TUe, this has led to formation of the Faculty of "Electrical Engineering".
Then the managing director of the green energy cooperative AGEM, Mr Guus Ydema, also a member of KIVI-EL, gave a fascinating account and reflection on how AGEM came into being.
From local (citizen and municipal) initiatives to initiate or accelerate the transition process to renewable energy, these initiatives led to the founding of AGEM and bundling in energy cooperatives first at local - and later at regional - and national level.
The aim is for the Achterhoek location to replace fossil energy with renewable energy for homes and businesses by 2030, as made clear with the presentation AGEM 25-01-2017 and can be read further on AGEM's website
A reflection on the development of renewable energy production can be monitored and followed in the video below:
After the dressed-up bread meal, Mr Jan Taks went into detail about the genesis of the iniative, crowdfounding, organising the project "Hydropower plant Dommel" ,
The development trajectory from idea to realisation for the hydropower plant in the "Drommel" spanned more than five years, during which tactical coordination and timely communication with both the water board, and the local residents/citizens, was essential.
The opening of the hydropower plant was therefore a celebration for everyone in the area, but especially for the initiators Jan Taks and Bram Taks together with the local residents:
The video with the water grab gives a good impression of how a citizen iniative came to realisation and acceptance.
