Description

Pathological Tissue Scanners
Philips Healthcare is developing a platform for digital pathology. Digital pathology means that slides of tissue, normally viewed under a microscope, will be scanned and available digitally. Philips provides a scanner, a storage system and an application for doctors to view the images. The technological/economic challenge is to get digital pathology images with the same resolution as the microscope, in the shortest possible time, fitting into pathology workflow at the lowest possible cost.

Philips has developed a total solution for digital pathology that meets these requirements. Part of the solution includes displaying pathology images in a 'Google Earth' like manner in a browser. An image can be zoomed in to the same level of detail as is possible with a microscope. At all zoom levels, an image with a high level of detail can be seen immediately.

After an explanation of the new technology by system specialist Dr Marcin Klecha, a brief visit will be made to the Consumer Information Centre for further explanation and demonstration
