TNO webinar: Switch to the hybrid energy system

Future energy system
How can our future electricity grid remain stable and affordable?
To have a grid for renewable energy in the future, we all need to make a big move today. We are going through an energy transition where wind and solar power are the main energy sources of our future energy system.
The variable nature of these sources increases the need for flexibility in the system, also because of massive industrial electrification. Storage and hydrogen production bring balance to the system, and heat and hydrogen products open new markets.
Switch to the future
To manage and, more importantly, validate and demonstrate hybrid systems, energy management systems are needed before large-scale deployment. This is why TNO and Wageningen Research have joined forces and set up the SWITCH field lab. A unique hybrid sustainable energy plant on a small scale.
TNO
There, TNO is mainly investigating how smart energy management solutions can support the integration of large amounts of electricity produced by offshore wind farms into the energy system from 2030 onwards. Wageningen Research focuses on the application possibilities of this kind of smart energy grid in rural areas.
