Making energy supplies sustainable is much more than fitting PV panels on the roofs of homes.
Making energy supplies sustainable is much more than fitting PV panels on the roofs of homes.
Nothing in the current energy system can be preserved if we want a virtually CO2 neutral energy supply for all applications by 2050. Transport will be electrified, as will the heating/cooling of buildings. Through this electrification, sustainably harvested energy will be brought to consumers, who will thereby combine a higher degree of comfort with a reduced environmental impact. Energy nodes of different dimensions (home, street, neighbourhood, industrial zone, city, ....) will take care of their own balance and interact with each other via electricity and heat networks.
Energy will no longer be at the heart of things: by having large amounts of sustainable energy available without much operational cost, investments will become the driving economic framework. Providing energy services will become the basis of the new forms of contracts.
Technology will provide new opportunities for consumers while achieving sustainability.
