Visit to 'Study Collection EWI' and 'Control Room of the Future' at TU Delft

Excursion to simulated future control room TENNET at department "electro" TU Delft and study collection in the same building (EWI).

After the lunch webinar on the Control Room of the Future in December, we will now visit the laboratory! Using a powerful computer simulation (called Digital Twin), the electricity grid of the future can be simulated with wind and solar power in the grid at will.

Much research is being done on the consequences of grid disruptions, including cyber attacks! This is very topical right now.

We will visit the computer room and the control room itself, where some examples of simulations will be given.

Guided tour and explanation by assistant professor Alex Stefanov.

Study Collection:

The Study Collection, which has been located in the low-rise section (basement) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering building since it opened in November 1969, houses an extensive collection of nostalgic, mostly electrical engineering equipment of the EWI faculty.

The collection includes diverse objects in which electrical engineering has occupied such an important place in our lives. Developments in image and sound, calculators and typewriters, telephony, photography, high voltage, radar technology, navigation systems, measurement and control equipment, electron tubes and computers to name but a few. But also books, magazines and documentation.

Preserving cultural heritage for posterity from our technical-scientific past is the main task of the Study Collection. In daily practice, this amounts to collecting, organising, conserving and describing electronic objects. The Study Collection is a tangible source of inspiration for students and allows them to see that the field, in a relatively short time, has undergone major changes. Professors and lecturers make grateful use of subject-historical information and objects to be used during lectures or publications.

The afternoon will end with drinks in the "PUB" in the basement of the Electrical Engineering building (EWI).

N.B. Introduction and tours of study collection are in Dutch.
