The Council of State's positive ruling on Randstad 380 kV high-voltage connection Beverwijk-Zoetermeer and Station Vijfhuizen in 2013 has declared the appeals against the zoning plans and implementation orders of the Randstad 380 kV North Ring and Station Vijfhuizen projects unfounded. The plans, adopted by the Minister of Economic Affairs (EZ) and the Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment (IenM), deal with the necessary construction of a new electricity connection from Beverwijk via Vijfhuizen to Bleiswijk. This ruling marks the important next step towards the actual realisation of the new 380kV high-voltage connection.

As realisation is about to begin, a number of construction permits have first been granted. The implementation orders for the northern section of the Northern Ring (Beverwijk-Vijfhuizen) were submitted for inspection in 2013. For the southern section (Vijfhuizen-Bleiswijk), the draft permits were made available for inspection in 2015. The northern section - together with the Vijfhuizen substation - is the most urgent; realisation of the new high-voltage connection should ensure that the supply of electricity remains guaranteed. The new 380 kV connection here will replace the existing 150 kV high-voltage connection.

With the Randstad 380 kV project, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and TenneT provide for a phased construction of an essential high-voltage connection in the Randstad region, divided between an already realised Southern Ring (Wateringen-Bleiswijk) and the Northern Ring.
The new connections are important for safeguarding the security of supply in the Randstad region, also in the future, and for increasing transmission capacity.

Construction of the new Beverwijk-Vijfhuizen connection is scheduled to start in 2014 and the Vijfhuizen-Bleiswijk connection is expected to start in 2015. TenneT will also start construction of the Vijfhuizen substation in 2013 and the Beverwijk substation in 2014.

If you want to keep up to date with developments in the high-voltage grids in the Netherlands and Belgium, check out the website HoogspanningsNet

HoogspanningsNet is an independent website about the world of large-scale electricity transmission. The site is run for and by those interested in the field.

HoogspanningsNet focuses primarily on the Dutch and Belgian high-voltage grid, medium-voltage and the world of electricity behind the wires. The site is independent of grid operators or energy producers and is managed by volunteers. The aim is to provide accessible information about the high-voltage world for everyone and to be a platform for anyone with high-voltage as a work, hobby or interest. The content of the site is sometimes a bit complicated, but basically suitable for all ages.
