Nanotechnology:Making small think big
Description
Prior to this, from 19.00 - 19.30 hours, the annual General Members' Meeting will also take place, to which interested TME members are of course also cordially welcome (see for the agenda at the bottom of this convocation).
The meeting will be introduced by Mr Ir. ing. Bart Walhout, researcher at the Technology Assessment department of the Rathenau Institute.
Nanotechnology is booming business. Internationally and nationally, governments and companies are putting a lot of money into it. The technological control of material properties at the (supra-)molecular level produces new materials. For example, carbon nanotubes for car bumpers, solar cells with nanostructured surfaces or better catalysts for chemical processes, but also cheap sensors to measure blood values or smaller computer chips.
In this way, nanotechnology also gives a new impulse to technological revolutions that have been going on for some time: that of information technology and biotechnology. Bart Walhout provides an introduction to nanotechnology, the opportunities for economy, health and sustainability, but also unknown risks and new social and ethical dilemmas. We would be delighted to welcome you to this evening. There is no charge for participation. Registration is from 7.30 pm
