Rijkswaterstaat is widening the A9 between the Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht junctions to four lanes in each direction of travel and is constructing a changing lane. The extra lanes will improve traffic flow and thus the accessibility of the northern Randstad. It will also improve the quality of life in the area. At Amstelveen, Rijkswaterstaat will deepen the A9 over a length of 1.6 kilometres, with three shelters: one at Oude Dorp, one at Stadshart and one at Bovenlandpad. At other places along the road, a total of 14 kilometres of noise barriers will be erected. The A9 Badhoevedorp - Holendrecht project is the fifth and also final section of the Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere road extension. (SAA)
