Geotechnical Engineering Day 2013: Elementary
Description
On Tuesday 5 November, the Chassé Theatre in Breda will be the venue for the Geotechnical Day 2013. During this congress, the professional world will again take note of the latest developments in this constantly evolving field. This time, the theme is 'Elementary'. This refers to the elements such as water, soil, dikes and wind, and to the thorough scientific approach to geotechnics that forms the basis of innovation.
Current topics
The Geotechniekdag offers a platform for a broad range of Dutch and Belgian facts and figures related to soil mechanics. The programme of this Dutch-Flemish day is multifaceted and topical. For example, the morning programme will focus on the largest lock in the world, the Deurganckdok lock in Antwerp, which is now under construction. Another topical topic, which also has wide social interest, is the behaviour of earthquakes in relation to activities in the subsurface.
Based on the day's theme of 'elementary', another lecture focuses on the problems of dykes and basin dykes. In the professional world, that of protection against (high) water, this is a hot topic.
Young professionals
The Geotechnical Day also provides a podium for young professionals, with interesting presentations from the Netherlands and Belgium.
A fixed part of the Geotechnical Day is the presentation of the Keverling Buisman Prize. This prize is awarded every two years for the best publications and the best graduates in the field of geotechnics.
Companies and institutions in the field of geo- and foundation engineering will show their latest products and services on the exhibition square.
The day will end with drinks and a buffet.
Chairmen of the day are Dr Mandy Korff and Monika de Vos of the Dutch and Flemish engineering associations, respectively.
