The theme of Geotechnics Day 2021 is "Hello World". This theme represents two different aspects of our field. "Hello World" represents the first steps a budding programmer takes. But it can also be read as the relationship between engineers and their environment. We see rapid developments taking place in the world of civil engineering in digitalisation and data science. But we also see that our environment has higher expectations of our designs and wants a say in the solution direction, for instance in terms of sustainability, circularity and ecological impact. Hello World, the geotechnical consultant in dialogue with the world. The opportunities offered by digitalisation help us to arrive faster at the reliable and optimal designs and projects demanded by the environment. With the theme "Hello World" of the Geotechnical Engineering Day 2021, we show that Geotechnical Engineering is at the centre of this world.

The day is intended for experts and interested parties in the field of geotechnical engineering employed by government, design and engineering firms, specialised consultancies, clients, contractors, water boards, scientific education in the Netherlands and Belgium.
