Perceiving your surroundings, 7 November 2017

Retrospective
On Tuesday, 7 November 2017, the Geotechnical Engineering Day took place with the theme "Perceiving your Environment". The theme highlighted the increasing role the environment plays in geotechnical engineering, especially when it comes to the effects of vibrations, deformations and groundwater. The success of civil engineering projects increasingly depends on support and acceptance within the community.
The Geotechnics Day 2017 focused on the importance of thorough knowledge of the environment and subsurface. Extensive attention was paid to the latest developments and advanced tools that help engineers and specialists to map this knowledge ever better and more accurately. These innovations help to realise projects more efficiently and with more consideration for the environment.
The day not only provided an opportunity to keep abreast of the latest topics within the field, but also to network with fellow professionals. Specialists from different sectors, such as governments, engineering firms, consultancies, contractors and academic education, came together to share knowledge and inspire each other.
The Geotechnical Engineering Day 2017 was a successful and instructive event, which focused on knowledge exchange and the connection between engineering and the environment.
