ONE YEAR OF MOTORISED AIR NAVIGATION IN THE NETHERLANDS

On 27 June 2009, it was exactly 100 years ago that a motorised aircraft was seen over Dutch territory for the first time. A century of Dutch aviation has produced countless memorable moments, stories and facts. Who does not know them, the familiar names: Fokker, KLM and Schiphol, or - from pre-war years - the "Snip", the "Uiver"?
And what about designations such as: Dakota, Connie, DC-8, Starfighter, F-16? Many other aviation names are less well known or even completely unknown, but all these individuals, companies, organisations, aircraft, airports and so on have also been important for the development of Dutch aviation.

How did Dutch aviation develop from its pioneering days, when the aircraft was still just "flying gear", to the most recent period, when we said goodbye to Fokker, to the Naval Air Service, to various military airfields?
How did KLM fare? And how did the Royal Air Force change?
When looking back, many questions can be asked and memories retrieved.

Amateur aviation historian Arie de Bruin has recently compiled, in collaboration with a team of experts, a beautiful commemorative book entitled: "100 Years of Flying Beyond", a unique, hefty and stylish reference book. For sale after lecture.
