Description

De Ingenieur, the organ of KIVI NIRIA, is 125 years old. At the request of the editors, technical journalist Henk Tolsma has gone through all volumes of De Ingenieur in search of articles that are still appealing today, which together give a picture of 125 years of technical development in the Netherlands. In total, he has scanned 800 articles, 60 to 80 of which he will show at this meeting. Thirty of the most appealing articles from those 125 volumes have been published, with an introduction, in the recently published book 'Heroes of De Ingenieur'.

Tolsma will divide his presentation into themes, such as: Cornelis Lely and the Zuiderzeewerken, engineers in the Dutch East Indies, mining in South Limburg, De Ingenieur before, during and after the First and Second World Wars, Delta works, oil and gas extraction in our country, development of nuclear engineering in the Netherlands, environmental care and sustainability.

As interludes between those themes, he will point out special articles from those 125 volumes. Among them: an early Lievense plan, the first prediction about the world's oil supply, windmills near Urk avant la lettre
