Description

As many of you will be aware, KIVI NIRIA Afdeling Geschiedenis der Techniek i.c.w. Histechnica organises - in addition to fascinating lectures - an annual study trip/excursion for members: alternately a domestic one (usually 2-day) and a foreign one (5 or 6-day). These excursions are always characterised by both the special monuments of industrial archaeology and the good atmosphere.

For 2013, we chose Zeeland. Apart from the fact that we have never visited this province as a society, it is also 60 years ago that this province in particular was hit by the North Sea floods.

The programme includes:
* Hellevoetsluis with the oldest dry dock in the Netherlands, designed by Jan Blanken, the accompanying museum and the classic crane that will be put on steam for us.
* Museum and workshop of the former Rotterdamse Tramweg Maatschappij. Followed by a ride reserved for us with possibly a wooden locomotive M67 to Schouwen.
* Reception by Rijkswaterstaat in the ir Topshuis with lecture. Visit to parts of the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier that are not open to the public (any more).
* Historic shipyard Meerman in Arnemuiden, especially known for the flat-bottomed schooner. In 2013, this shipyard will celebrate its 250th anniversary.
* Former Shipyard De Schelde, if possible combined with a visit to the MuZEEum in Vlissingen.
* Watersnoodmuseum, housed in the four caissons that were sunk in the Ouwerkerk tidepool in 1953.
* Passage by bus of the most important Delta Works
* Comprehensive reader with DVD

The price for this study trip is 275 euro p.p. based on two persons per room. There is a surcharge of 45 euros for room use by one person.

This price includes:
- Transport from a Rotterdam station (v.v.) for two days by luxury coach with toilet
- 2 lunches, of which one with a beautiful view and one hot (Sunday)
- Overnight stay with dinner in the new 4-star Van der Valk hotel in Middelburg

Participation is possible for a limited number of members (max. 1 guest). Only the order in which 25 euro per person is credited as a deposit will determine the order of registration for participation, to be paid into bank account number 47.65.980 of Vereniging Histechnica stating "Aanbetaling Zeeland 2013". Registration closes on 10 February 2013. The date of payment of the remaining amount will be communicated to you upon confirmation of participation.
