Excursion from 29 April to 4 May 2008
The boards of Histechnica and KIVI NIRIA, Department of History of Technology, cordially invite you to the jubilee excursion 2008 to Albion (England), the cradle of the Industrial Revolution.
We encounter a rich industrial past there in situ and in a number of museums of international stature.
The letter of 24 November announced that further information would follow on the preparatory meeting and jubilee trip:
On 8 March a preparatory meeting will be held in the Techniek Museum with the following programme:
- ir. G.G. Nieuwmeijer will give a talk on the "Second Iron Pilgrimage to Shropshire" and
- ir J.B.M. Vercauteren will provide further details on departure times from Schiphol Airport to Birmingham and back, hotels, bus company and anything else that comes up.
The information books will be distributed on 12 April after the presentation by E.J. Nusselder
FRIDAY 2 MAY
Visit the Waterloo Bridge at Betws-y-Coed, visit the seaside town of Llandudno with shopping arcades and pier. Lunch on your own in Conwy.
Afternoon visit to Conwy Castle with Telford footbridge and railway bridge.
Reception by the Telford Foundation with visit to the exhibition on works of Telford and expertly guided visit to the two bridges over the Menai.

SATURDAY 3 MAY
Visit to the woollen mills in Trefriw, trip over the Llanberis Pass, lunch en route.
in the afternoon, visit Slate Museum in LLanberis and a trip on the Snowdon Railway steam train to the highest mountain peak (1085 m) in Wales.

SUNDAY MAY 4
Tour of The Lions Salt Works and demonstration of artisanal salt extraction in Northwich.
In the afternoon, visit exhibition on and boat trip on the Anderton Boat Lift, then to Birmingham airport, departure for Schiphol Airport.

DINSDAY 29 APRIL
10.05 a.m. Arrival Birmingham, demonstration steam locomotive "Trevithik" at Blists Hill, preparation of casting moulds, visit to scale model "iron bridge", lunch at Blists Hill, afternoon visit to Iron Bridge Museum incl. Darby furnace and to landmark the iron bridge over the Severn with tollhouse.

WEDNESDAY 30 APRIL
Lecture on the reconstruction of the scale model "iron bridge", visit to Foundery (blast furnace and foundry), to wrought ironworks, mine installation and Hay Inclined Plane (above), lunch on your own.
in the afternoon Hay Inclined Plane (below), Tartunnel and Coalportdale Bridge.
For non-technical partners visit pottery factory and showroom.

THURSDAY MAY 1
Visit to cast-iron aqueduct near Wellington, departure for Llangollen, boat trip through tunnels on Pontcysyllte aqueduct. Lunch on board.
Afternoon visit to a motorbike museum, followed by a visit to the restored Neolithic burial chamber near Capel Garmon.
