Description

The National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) is, certainly within the Netherlands, a unique institute. Not only that there is no other institute within our country that is engaged in aerospace research as such, but due to its age of over 90 years, the NLR, with its predecessors RSL and NLL, has experienced almost the entire era of aviation in the Netherlands and even contributed to it to a significant extent. For these reasons, historically interesting items should be preserved and made accessible to those interested. Fortunately, the opportunity arose in 1985 to set up a company museum in the LST (for Lage Snelheids Tunnel) building in Amsterdam. So - after a modest start - the museum has now existed for 25 years; in that time it has been able to expand considerably. As will be seen, there is still a lot of interesting things left over from past years.

The work necessary to maintain and expand this museum is carried out by volunteers, a group of early retirement and NLR pensioners.

Several buildings of the Amsterdam branch of the NLR were designed by H.A. Maaskant and date from 1939/1940; they have the status of National Monument
