Description

- Our journeys of discovery

A narrative with light images

Others think we are two old guys, yet we experience all kinds of things during our "journeys of discovery". That's what we call our searches for relics of an industrial past. Our experiences will now be discussed.

We always start with a question, as this focuses the attention. Then the usual information: who (we are), what (we do), where and how (we go). Finally, when. Then something about photography in general and in abandoned buildings in particular. This because of the inevitable risks.

What you hear and see is about our explorations of objects from days gone by. Or what was left of them! We started out cycling along the forts of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, but gradually made our way to more distant regions in Germany, Belgium and France. Although we were never on the road for more than three days. We preferred to look for objects that had something to do with coal and steel. Although we hadn't visited Iron Bridge yet, Coalbrookdale did have our attention.

Because we actually discovered something special on every trip, we have a wealth of stories. Not only about all kinds of technical objects, but also about the people we bumped into there. Together with the images, you get; "our view of the world".

During our travels, we both became attached to certain subjects. That is, we have many photos of them. We show those too!

Speaker(s)

Kees de Jong and Rein Reuter

Kees and Rein worked the last years before retirement at "de Zink" in Budel-Dorplein. The only zinc factory in the Netherlands, founded as early as 1892. Rein was head of the Training Department and Kees of the Electro/Meet&Regel. Although Rein was originally a mechanical engineer, actually a marine engineer, they spoke to each other regularly. For example, about; Safety. This in connection with their membership of the Works Council.
