Study trip Emsland and East Groningen
Description
Two-day study trip (5 and 6 June 2015).
The Emsland and East Groningen region was chosen for 2015. There are many interesting locations in this border region. The programme includes:
- Coffee at Grand Hotel Wientjes in Zwolle prior to departure at 10:00 by coach.
- The "Moormuseum" in Gross Hesepe. This is the most extensive museum in the field of peat extraction, among other things a gigantic steam plough is on display here.
- In Germany, peat is still being extracted in the Westermoor about 60 km from here. By narrow gauge railway - the Seelter Foonkieker - this large peat extraction is explored.
- On the way, a short stop is made at the test track of the Transrapid magnetic levitation line, now an industrial heritage site.
- Meyerwerft is the pride of the Emsland region. The shipyard builds the largest cruise ships in the world, far inland on the "small" river Ems. VIP tour along exhibition and in the company hall.
- Bronze engine museum. Old engine factory in Appingedam. An old "Brons" from TU Delft is on loan.
- Museum Stoomgemaal Winschoten. If possible as an alternative visit to a gas compression transmission station.
