The boards of KIVI Department of History of Technology and the Histechnica Association have the pleasure to invite you to attend an "OUTDOOR DAY" in Haarlem with lectures:

"Teylers Museum (1784), lectures Dr Sam Goudsmit, Prof Dr H. Lorentz and visit Hodshon house (1794)"

Programme:
10.15 a.m.: Walk-in / coffee in Gehoorzaal (1885)
11.00 a.m.: (punctual) lectures on Teylers, Prof. Lorentz in Haarlem, and Dr Sam Goudsmit and his hunt for Hitler's atomic bomb.
Then visit museum, lunch (on your own), participation "Lorentz tours" and visit Hodshon-huis (Kon. Holl. Mij. der Wetenschappen)

Attendance at this "Outdoor Day" requires timely registration. The registration deadline closes on Tuesday, 5 November 2019.

The speakers are Drs. Trienke van der Spek, Chief Curator of Science Teylers and Ir. Frank W. van den Berg, chairman GdT.

Apart from the lectures and then wandering around the extraordinary museum (with large collection of physical instruments, minerals and fossils), you can also take part in the Lorentz Formula (with the restored laboratory and Lorentz's old study, see Appendix) and a visit to the magnificent 1794 Hodshon House, home to the Royal Holland Society of Sciences, directly opposite Teylers. It is special that this building is being opened to us.

Furthermore: for entry to Teylers Museum, please bring your Museum annual pass, or else pay a 12 euro entrance fee. Lunch at your own expense in the Museum Café.

Max. number of participants: 150 (first come - first serve).
Please arrive in plenty of time to register for participation in the Lorentz Formula, coffee will be available from 10.15 a.m., upstairs in the Rotunda in front of the Auditorium. Lectures will start promptly at 11.00.
Paid parking right next to Teylers Museum in parking garage De Appelaar or 10 to 12 min walk from Haarlem NS Station or by public transport bicycle. The city centre is somewhat difficult to reach by car, follow the signs for parking garage De Appelaar, drive along Het Spaarne from the North. Take your time.

If you wish, you can also attend only the morning programme until about 1 pm,. and visit Haarlem city centre afterwards.
Or else just the afternoon programme (after lunch on your own in the Museumcafé).

Speakers:
Drs. Trienke M. van der Spek is Chief Curator of Science at Teylers Museum. Previously, she was a.o. curator at Boerhaave Museum in Leiden. She studied Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam.

Frank W. van den Berg is chairman of the KIVI History of Technology Section. He studied Mechanical Engineering at TU Delft and Economics at Columbia University (NYC). He has pursued a business career, partly abroad, partly as an entrepreneur. He was (and still is) also part-time at VU University as a lecturer in Financial Economics and Entrepreneurship and active in regional politics.
