Project management and construction of Turkstream
Technical and organisational challenges before and during the construction of an ultra-deep gas pipeline in the Black Sea
South Stream Transport BV, headquartered in Amsterdam, is the project developer of the Turkstream project. TurkStream is a high-pressure gas pipeline from Anapa in Russia through the Black Sea at a depth of 2200 m to Kiyikoy in Turkey. The construction phase is almost over and from 31 December gas will flow through the pipeline from Russia to Turkey and further to Europe. The lecture will give an impression of the technical challenges and how the project team dealt with them. It will also explain how the project organisation and project management contributed to the success of the project, with all set targets being met.

About the speaker:
Albert Haak joined South Stream in 2015 as Deputy Technical Director, responsible for Surveys, Permitting and FEED engineering. In 2015, South Stream's shareholder decided to drastically change the scope of the project and it was decided to build the pipeline to Turkey instead of Bulgaria. Construction and tenders were already underway. At that stage, Albert was responsible for the necessary pre-construction activities and the permit process in Turkey, with the aim of meeting the specified completion date.
Albert started his teaching job at TNO Applied Geosciences as a geohydrologist and reservoir engineer for geothermal projects. Albert then worked at Clyde Petroleum as a Petroleum Engineer. He was responsible for the management of all operated and non-operated Assets. Albert then worked at Amoco/BP, Essent and TAQA as Director Business Development and M&A manager on the valuation and acquisition of projects for the construction of high-pressure gas pipelines (onshore and offshore) and underground gas storage.
For the last 10 years, Albert has been involved in the preparation and construction of Transadriatic Pipeline (TAP) and Turkstream. Albert is a member of the Senior Management Team of South Stream Transport.
