Description

Shale Gas Development
Eric Vaughan, COO Cuadrilla Resources

Cuadrilla Resources has acquired exploration licences for 7500 square kilometres in the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Poland. Cuadrilla's estimate of 200 tcf for the Bowland shale was initially greeted with scepticism, but more than validated when British Geological Survey's recent assessment turned out even higher.

Currently, environmental impact assessments are ongoing for projects in the UK and in the Netherlands. Cuadrilla has drilled three exploration wells in the Bowland Basin, acquired over 100 km2 of 3D seismic and performed five hydraulic fracture treatments and flow-tested one well. Eric Vaughan, Chief Operations Officer of Cuadrilla Resources, will give a presentation on the history and future plans of the project and how some of the highly visible public concerns are being addressed. He will explain the basics of well construction, hydraulic fracturing, natural gas use and seismicity and how these are managed to protect the environment.

Shale gas development
Eric Vaughan, COO Cuadrilla Resources

Caudrilla Resources has obtained 7500 square kilometres of exploration licences in the UK, the Netherlands and Poland. The company has previously estimated that there is 200 tcf of gas in the UK's Bowland Shale Basin. Initially received with scepticism, this estimate has since been more than confirmed by the UK Geological Survey, which recently came up with an even higher figure.

Environmental impact assessments are currently underway in the UK and the Netherlands for projects Cuadrilla has in the pipeline. Three wells have so far been drilled in the Bowland Basin. Caudrilla has further completed more than 100 square kilometres of 3D seismic surveys, conducted five 'hydraulic fracture' operations and tested one well for production potential.
Eric Vaughan, head of operations at Cuadrilla, will give a presentation on the history of the project and future plans. He will also address some concerns that are currently topical in the media, explaining the construction method of the wells, the principles of "hydraulic fracturing" and seismic activity due to gas production, and how these are controlled to protect the environment
