Development of tactile aesthetics
Description
Tactile aesthetics arise in making. The sense of touch is the sense through which we experience and express affection. But through the sense of touch we also learn about and manipulate the material world. Tactile sensitivity therefore has two sides:
- the affective (aesthetic) sensitivity,
- the physical (skills) sensitivity.
Both come together to develop in physical making/creating. This lecture is about the importance of the sense of touch for making, and vice-versa, about the importance of making for the development of aesthetic sensitivity. Why should we nurture making in design education? Not for nostalgic reasons, but precisely because of the creative, innovative possibilities that attention to it offers.
Participation in the lecture is free of charge. Dinner costs € 20 (main course incl. two drinks), payable in cash.
If you are joining us for dinner, please give notice in connection with Se7en's planning and reservation of the number of tables.
