Suturing blood vessels has been done the same way for many decades. A highly artisanal and meticulous process. A renowned vascular surgeon thought: 'This can be done differently and launched the idea of one-handed suturing. Faster, neater, and one less assistant needed." Together with his brother-in-law, they started a company, Mellon. Spark came on board to develop this innovation with Mellon.
This story is about the innovation of a pioneering product through trial and error. A true journey of discovery through microtechnology, user acceptance, brand perception, certification of a risk class 3 medical device.
Michel van Schie is a partner at Spark design & innovation, an industrial design agency of over 30 people, based in a beautiful location in Rotterdam. He has worked for exceptional clients and projects with often challenging combinations of strategy, concepting, design and engineering. From eye measuring equipment to firefighting tools, from 3D printers to flying cars. Spark is a professional agency with a special position in the field of integral design.
Prior to the dinner, the General Assembly (ALV) of the Department of Industrial Design will take place from 5pm. If you wish to participate in the ALV, please mention this when registering.
