How industrial designers provide support for people with dementia and their surroundings

'How industrial designers provide support for people with dementia and their environment'
Rens Brankaert received his PhD from TU/e Faculty of Industrial Design in 2016, focusing on designing products and systems for people with dementia during his research. Since then, he has worked at the same faculty as an assistant professor.
Designers can provide help for people with dementia (and to people around them) by designing simple tools for everyday problems, such as finding their way back home.
What do you need to know about dementia before you can design properly? How can designers help this group of people to maintain a good quality of life for a longer period of time?
With our ageing society, there are more and more elderly people with dementia. As a cure is not yet readily available, industrial design and contemporary technology may be able to provide a solution as a modern service.
