How do you design a car? Scandinavian car design by Volvo
It is no longer possible to register to attend this KIVI lecture physically, only online.
The car is perhaps the most complex product we use in our daily lives. What does the design process of such a complicated product actually look like? Besides the technical aspects, there are many other factors involved. What market are you designing for? And, most importantly for many consumers, what does a car look like?
Alain studied Industrial Design at TU Delft and first came into contact with the professional car industry during his graduation at Volkswagen in Germany. As an independent designer, he worked on various designs after graduation, from Dakar cars to electric vans, and for 2 years he has been working as a designer in Volvo's design studio in Sweden.
During this lecture, Alain will take you for a look into the normally, strictly secret, design process of cars. What does 'Scandinavian Design' mean for Volvo and what does the future look like for an industry that is in a state of flux? What has changed about the design process with the advent of the electric car and how will the appearance of the car be affected by technologies such as autonomous driving?
