Description

The perception of green is organised by Alterra Wageningen UR in collaboration with the Material Design foundation and KIVI. The meeting is part of the Dutch Green Building Week.
The Material Design foundation promotes knowledge dissemination in the field of materials by connecting different areas of knowledge such as industry, designers and researchers.
Alterra is the knowledge institute for the green living environment. Alterra is part of Wageningen University & Research centre and develops expertise on green space and its sustainable social use. Alterra's mission is to explore and provide insight into the potential of nature and to improve the quality of life.

During the discussion meeting the perception of green space focuses on the added value of green space as a multifunctional material. The conscious and unconscious perception of spaces and surroundings is largely determined by the use of green.

Green is an important multifunctional product that has a crucial influence on the living environment in terms of health, social balance, climate, environmental quality and economic value. The multi-functionality of green space is often overlooked. Air quality and soil quality are not immediately visible but are crucial if we want to achieve a healthy living environment.

By making the added value of greenery transparent and highlighting its multifunctional capacities, it is possible to better integrate these aspects into the building and area agenda. Integrating ecology into building and area design is crucial, especially in view of growing intensive urbanisation and climate change.

For both indoor and outdoor climate, greenery has an important role with regard to spatial perception. Greenery has a positive influence on water management, air quality and particulate matter reduction, among other things.
It is known that greenery in indoor spaces contributes to better air quality, has a positive influence on health aspects and therefore contributes to higher productivity.

Greenery has an important influence on house prices. If a house is adjacent to greenery and water, the house price can increase by 16%. In addition, the high degree of urbanisation leads to flooding and heat island effects, among others, this has major effects on the economy and health. By deploying greenery, these effects can be well controlled.

The speakers will further explain the added value of greenery
