10-day permaculture course
Description
This course aims to gain insight into the main themes of permaculture, and learn to design with them. As a group we will work on developing a design for the site - the Fort Farm - and in doing so you will also lay the foundations to start fruitful work yourself in another, your own place. In addition, your own place can also serve as a design site.
Topics covered more or less 'in depth' during the course:
- Food systems and food sovereignty
- Soil
- Plants, shrubs and trees
- Landscape and garden
- Water and climate
- The design process
- Social permaculture
Gradually, the connections between the various topics become clearer and clearer, and by practising the steps of the design process, everything gets a real grip. The course alternates between different working methods.
- saturday 7 & Sunday 8
- Friday 20 to Sunday 22 February
- Saturday 21 to Monday 23 March
- Friday 24 & Saturday 25 April
Walk-in from 09:00, programme starts at 09:30. The final day of each block ends at 17:00, on the previous days there is also an evening programme.
We have room for 12 - 24 participants.
Speaker(s)
Course leader: Fransjan de Waard
Fransjan de Waard is a tropical forestry expert. When he was planting trees against desertification in Andalusia, permaculture came along. It inspired him. He founded De Waard Edible Landscape, and in 1996 his book Gardens of Abundance was published.
Fransjan teaches, organises, activates, writes, edits and translates books on environment, ecology and climate, talks and designs. In 2012, Fransjan received a Green Ribbon in Amsterdam for his efforts in urban agriculture and food democracy.
Guest speaker: Farmer Bos
Paul Bos founded a medium-sized marketing communications
consultancy and was managing partner here for 10 years. In 1998, after a short sabbatical, he switched to his parents' farm, which he took over completely in 2000. There he combines "the worlds" of farmer and coach/advisor.
Guest speaker: Norbert Daemen (ecologist)
Norbert Daemen works in the field of landscape, nature and cultural history. He leads excursions and advises companies and institutions. In the book "Harnas van de Hoofstad", he wrote the section on the nature of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. Norbert knows (almost) everything about the land around the boerd
