East African Care
Description
We would like to invite you to a special WOT activity. On Wednesday 18 September, Suleiman Mwakojo from Kenya is coming to give a talk for us. This will start at 20:00 on the WOT premises.
Suleiman comes from Mzambweni, on the coast of Kenya, where he is involved with the Dutch organisation East African Care (www.eastafricancare.org ), a private initiative that has been active in Kenya since 2004 and focuses mainly on water and sanitation facilities in this coastal region. Suleiman coordinates small-scale projects on the ground, such as wells, floflo borehole and latrines, as well as mango boats, cows and goats.
He was in the Netherlands in 2007, when he learned the basics of the rope pump at WOT, after which this technique was widely used in his home country. They also widely use the floflo borehole there, a mobile drilling rig, which was also developed in the Netherlands.
It will be an interesting talk for anyone who wants to hear and see what comes of these techniques in Africa! And because the Kenyan community is actively involved in installing a borehole, it has been a great success and many people are now provided with reliable and clean drinking water!
We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday. Coffee will be ready from 19:30, perhaps with a biscuit.
