Leendert de Boerspolder symposium
Description
On Wednesday 6 April 2016, the Rhineland Water Board and STOWA, together with FloodControl IJkdijk, are organising the Leendert de Boerspolder symposium. This symposium is entirely dedicated to the unique dike embankment test conducted at the Leendert de Boerspolder in October 2015. The test with a clay dike on peat offers researchers the chance to learn more about the actual strength of this type of dike. This can help water boards increase the safety of this type of dike while avoiding unnecessary costs for improvement. The symposium is designed to share and discuss the knowledge and experiences gained from the trial.
The morning programme consists of several workshops. These will discuss proven strength and the various innovative measurement techniques applied. During the afternoon programme, we will elaborate on the research questions posed by the water boards and what this has yielded. The application of the developed knowledge in practice will also be discussed. In addition, the need for stress testing will be highlighted
