Buiteneiland Amsterdam: natural capstone of IJburg
The municipality of Amsterdam is organising a conference on Thursday 26 September on the theme of Buiteneiland Amsterdam: natural capstone of IJburg. The municipality of Amsterdam invites professionals at the intersection of water, soil and sustainable area development to the mini-conference: 'Circular & slow land-making: a Sustainable Dilemma'.
The target audience of the conference are experts: colleagues from the business community (contractors, consulting firms, architectural firms etc.), knowledge institutions and co-governments (province, municipalities, water boards) etc.
Buiteneiland is the last island of the IJburg archipelago. This year, the ring dyke was constructed and the contours of Buiteneiland are visible. Over the next 15-20 years, this island will be filled with soil released from infra and construction projects in the city. During the conference, we will discuss the challenges of circular land-making with experts from the field. Island development poses spatial and sustainability challenges. How do we deal with the friction between the task of circularity and the requirements of environmental legislation? Besides interesting lectures on these topics, we like to reflect on our dilemmas with designers, sustainability professionals and soil experts. With contribution from Frits Palmboom, Dirk Sijmons, Nikol Dietz and Deltares, among others
