Managing water and soil? A matter of doing!
This activity has been moved from 6 March to 17 April 2024
We would like to cordially invite you to an inspiring session, hosted by Ingenieursbureau Arcadis in Arnhem, on a concrete project as a fine example of giving hands and feet to the principle of Water and Soil Stewardship. A great example of how solutions are being worked on in practice in a very concrete way, and actually realised!

Water and Soil Steering? A question of doing!
Restoration of estates zone Baakse Beek
Often now we try to keep the lowest well dry, high-value agricultural land lies in (former) stream valleys and groundwater-dependent nature fights for its existence due to desiccation. As a result of climate change, it is becoming increasingly clear that adjustments are needed in both water management and spatial planning. Doing nothing is not an option, but what should be done?
In terms of the social engineering of the water system, we have run out of steam. Drastic adjustments to the water system are needed. This will sometimes also involve (major) changes in spatial planning. But, in the end, there is something to be gained for all 'users'. A thorough physical geographic study is needed to understand the system in order to arrive at the right layout. Policies on water management and spatial planning must also 'grow along' if we want to move towards a climate-resilient water system and a future-proof layout of the area.
Using practical examples (both planning and implementation), Wilco Klutman of Arcadis will take you through the theme of "directing water and soil".
