Skills Centre news café for medics
Description
Simulation Technology and Training in Skills Lab.
Specialisation used to consist mainly of hard work in the clinic under the supervision of a professor. Now, budding specialists receive education in modules and targeted training to practise their skills in a dedicated Skils lab. Within the skills lab (CMC IX) is an OR unit, ICU unit, mortuary, etc. The Skillslab is attached to the existing functioning hospital, using the existing technical infrastructure.
Paradoxically, the human influence on the occurrence of errors is increasing with the ever-increasing adoption of advanced techniques in medicine. It is already recognised that about 75% of incidents in the application of medical technologies are human errors. Curtailing this will be one of the challenges of the future. Certification will play an important role here.
The skills centre is designed to prepare medical professionals for practice in a safe simulated environment. Key concepts are: safe for patient and healthcare professional and cost-effective.
The presentation will give an insight into the possibilities and developments of the UMCG skills centre.
