What makes a ship advanced - and are advanced ships only of this age? The former question is harder to answer than the latter. After all, the maritime world has been innovating for several thousand years. This lecture can be seen as a summary of the highlights of the lecture "Design of Advanced Marine Vehicles" given at TU Delft. An overview of major maritime innovations in history, including some recent developments (the latest step in history so far).
