Nederlands Loodswezen - Pilot ladders
Nederlands Loodswezen is one of the organisations that contributes to the safe and smooth handling of shipping traffic in the port. Its main task is to pilot more than 90,000 sea-going vessels subject to compulsory pilotage to and from the Dutch and Flemish seaports every year. For this, it is available 24 hours a day in all weather conditions. This experience goes back four hundred years. Four centuries of historical moments and traditions that Dutch shipping is rich in.
The Loodswezen has been an independent organisation since 1988. Since its privatisation, it has operated from two disciplines: Nederlandse Loodsencorporatie (NLc) and Nederlands Loodswezen BV (NLBV). It is laid down in the Pilotage Act that the registered pilot has the task of offering pilotage services. In practice, this means ensuring that well-trained and expert marine pilots board seagoing vessels. They provide nautical advice to the captain with the aim of getting the ship safely into and out of ports. NLBV supports the pilot in this. In recent years, it has grown into an organisation that responds to market developments, listens to and advises stakeholders in the Dutch seaports.
The focus during this lecture is on new regulations for pilotage ladders.
