THE MARITIME AND OFFSHORE CHALLENGES OF MORNING
KIVI NIRIA and MARIN will focus on two challenging topics in a seminar. In two presentations,
research institute MARIN will answer current social issues. A
discussion will take place after each presentation. KIVI NIRIA invites every fairgoer to attend this seminar in the Diamond Room.

KIVI NIRIA extends a warm welcome to the seminar participants. In a short introduction, the KIVI NIRIA
annual theme Delta-technology will be explained.

The ship in its environment; contributing to safety and environment by good hydrodynamic
design?

In the current discussion around CO2 and particulate matter reductions, shipping
plays an important role. Combined with the sharply rising fuel prices and the pressure
to use qualitatively cleaner fuels, the question of a
safe and economical ship becomes very topical again. The industry is considering
increasing the safety and economy of ships during actual operations at sea. Connecting transport at sea to the entire chain is therefore becoming more important. Also, traffic in
and around ports is being regulated more and more tightly for the same logistical reasons but
also for safety reasons.

exhibition visitor the opportunity to follow part of the programme.

How does an offshore construction survive a heavy storm?

With the trend of oil and gas production in greater water depths, offshore
platforms also encounter increasingly extreme wind, current and wave conditions.
A good example is the Gulf of Mexico with its hurricanes and 'loop currents'. During Hurricanes Rita and Katrina in 2005 alone, 113 platforms were lost in the Gulf of Mexico, mostly due to a combination of extreme wind and waves. This presentation will provide insight into the latest developments based on research results and spectacular video footage.
