Measuring and regulating (lecture + ALV MRB)
Description
Title:
Measurement and Regulation in Urban Water Management
Water management in the built environment is a key focus of current water policy. Water in an urban landscape is not only important for an attractive living environment, but can also serve a useful purpose as a buffer during abundant rainfall. The lecture will cover the measurement and control aspect of urban water management. The following will be discussed:
* History and current state of affairs surrounding measurement and regulation in urban water management.
* The technical and organisational issues.
* Utility and necessity of measurement and regulation in urban water management.
Francois Clemens studied Civil Engineering at Delft University of Technology (fluid mechanics and health engineering). Here, he graduated on the mathematical description of non-stationary suspension transport in a circular pipeline. His career in business started as a project engineer at Witteveen + Bos. After a period as sewerage specialist at DHV, he returned to Witteveen + Bos as head of the urban water management department. Between 1998 and 2001, he completed a leisure PhD with the thesis 'Hydrodynamic models in urban drainage; application and calibration'. Since 2000, he has combined his position at Witteveen + Bos with an associate professorship in sewerage at TU Delft.
The Annual Meeting of the MRBT Section will take place from 18:30 to 19:00.
This will be followed by Francois Clemens' lecture.
