Description

Product fragility is a tricky concept. How do you determine the product fragility of a newly developed high-tech machine part? Destructive testing is ruled out because of high costs and low future production volumes. So the business case for destructive testing cannot be closed.

Fortunately, the industry in the Brainport region, with Philips as its foundation, has a rich history of building knowledge around product fragility. The packaging industry has simultaneously built up knowledge around protecting these fragile products throughout the logistics process.

Faes Group gives a look at the theory behind product protection, starting points, assumptions and aptly designing packaging for high-tech industry.

Faes Group designs, produces and distributes sustainable packaging for a wide variety of applications. Part of its clientele consists of companies active in nano and medical technology, such as ASML, Medtronic and Philips. Another major customer is the Ministry of Defence. All these organisations often have to transport very valuable and sensitive components, under sometimes extreme conditions. Faes Group thinks along with them and develops advanced packaging solutions.
