Sustainable aluminium solutions
Description
The manufacturing industry in the Netherlands faces a major challenge. Consumers and governments are placing increasingly high demands on products in terms of quality and sustainability in relation to price. Outsourcing to the (far) East no longer offers a solution because of decreasing available production capacity due to increasing demand in local markets and, partly as a result, increasing labour costs. New, smart solutions that make products more sustainable, better quality and cheaper to produce are desired.
Aluminium offers opportunities to develop new solutions that meet these requirements. The material's unique combination of properties ensures that the use of aluminium in the automotive industry and many other applications is growing rapidly. Aluminium is lightweight, can be infinitely recycled without loss of properties and is easy to shape, deform and machine. Precisely those properties that designers currently demand from a material.
Only by making optimal use of the specific knowledge available in the production chain can the desired solutions be realised. Sapa therefore shares its knowledge on smart solutions that come about by making optimal use of the properties of aluminium and extrusion technology.
During this meeting, we will learn how to make optimal use of the freedom of form of aluminium and which smart design solutions are possible. Then, during a tour of the company, we will see how aluminium scrap is processed into new aluminium profiles.
By performing various mechanical operations, we will see that further functionalities are added, resulting in aluminium components that are ready for use
