Technical communication by 3-D
Description
Engineers and designers spend a lot of time delivering 2-D TPD (Technical Product Documentation) derived from 3-D models. For a long time, this was necessary to communicate with suppliers. Nowadays, many suppliers work with 3-D models for their production (machine tools). Time is lost in translating 3-D to 2-D information back and forth and, moreover, these steps increase the likelihood of errors more than necessary.
There is therefore something to be gained by both parties (outsourcer and supplier) by directly supplying and processing 3-D models that can be passed on 'dimensionally poor'. Initial estimates indicate that 10-20% time savings can be realised in various phases of the development process.
ASML, together with its suppliers, has carried out a number of pilot projects in this area and will explain its vision of this development from an OEM perspective on this evening.
The experiences of one of the suppliers participating in the pilot project will also be discussed.
