Caspar lecture 2012
Description
The aim of the Caspar lecture is to highlight a speaker's more personal experience on a topic relevant to our members, including some interaction with the attendees. For the 2012 Caspar lecture, we would like to focus on the geothermal projects in Pijnacker and Delft.
In 2010 and 2011, two projects were started in Pijnacker. A total of four geothermal wells have been drilled. There are also elaborate plans for a geothermal doublet in Delft. Although the initial drilling has been technically successful, the projects are not yet in operation. Grower Leon Ammerlaan's doublet produced such quantities of oil and gas that a review of the installations was needed. Complications also arise on the legal front, because who owns the oil and gas? Euphemistically, it is referred to as 'bycatch'. And although the doublet's production is more than meeting expectations, in addition, injectivity is disappointing. To optimise production, injectivity will have to be improved, for instance through stimulation. All this leads to the question of what impact this will have and, in addition, what consequences this may have for new geothermal projects in and around Delft, in the Westland, or elsewhere.
