Mining water proj.Heerlen/Coal mining
Description
1) READING ON THE HEERLENSE MINEWATERPROJECT
Ir. Dick Swart
The Mijnwater project is an international partnership between the Netherlands, England, France and Germany. The project aims to initially heat and cool about 300 homes and 20,000 m² of buildings in Heerlen 'from its own source', among other things. The temperature at a depth of 700 metres is 32 degrees, and can well be used for sustainable heat use. Ing. E.A.M.B. Demollin-Schneiders is the deviser of the mine water concept.
The objectives of the pilot projects are:
- Extracting new 'green' energy from old mines;
- Regeneration, including opportunities for possible new jobs;
- Generating an environmental solution rather than an environmental problem.
Mr Swart will elaborate on the background to this innovative project, w.o. the geological and drilling technological aspects involved.
2) TERUGBLIK ON THE NETHERLANDS COLENMINEBOUW on the basis of a film about the 'Emma' mine
with explanatory notes by Mr Dr Tako de Jong.
Via an illustrative colour film from 1973, an impression will be given of the ins and outs of the 'old' mining industry in the Netherlands.
Afterwards, Mr de Jong will provide further explanations on this history, including production statistics and the closure issue.
