Presentation of Colonel Drake Award
Description
KIVI NIRIA Mining Section in cooperation with the Mining Association is organising:
Award ceremony "'Colonel' Drake Award"
on 5 November 2010.
On Edward Drake: 'Dogged persistence led this man to drill -- and drill -- and drill, seeking oil deposits. His success launched an Oil Rush and brought the world a new energy source.' (Daniel Yergin, 'The Prize')
On 27 August 2009, exactly 150 years after the drilling of the first oil well in Titusville, Pennsylvania by 'Colonel' Edward Drake, KIVI NIRIA, Mining Section, has already extensively commemorated the birthday of modern oil and gas extraction through a ''Colonel' Drake Honorary Tribute'.
Following this, the board decided to select a worthy successor to this founder of the global 'E&P' industry, for which an appeal was made to all members at the end of 2009.
The ''Colonel' Drake Award' is intended for that person or persons who have made a meaningful contribution to the development of the (broad) Mining Science and Industry, through vision, perseverance and inventiveness.
A number of candidates have been nominated to the Board for this award, and have already been presented in more detail to the members at the Annual Meeting on 9 April last. At a special meeting on 5 November next, one of the candidates will be officially presented with the ''Colonel' Drake Award'.
This activity will be held in combination with the monthly 'Barbaraborrel' of the Mining Association
