Zero Emission Power Plants
Description
'CCS: Storage of CO2 in the soil and the role of Zero Emission Power Plants.
Lectures on Zero Emission Power Plants - the future of climate-neutral energy supply and the possibilities for CO2 storage in the Dutch underground.
Source: IPCC, SR CCS, 2005
'Carbon Capture and Storage' or 'CCS' is sometimes referred to as the third 'route' in the global fight against the increase of CO2 concentration in the atmosphere, alongside intensified efforts on energy saving and the wider application of renewable energy. Especially in the next few decades, 'CCS' will be an important pillar in (inter)-national climate policy, as part of the transition to a completely sustainable energy system.
Future vision in energy conversion using 'CCS' is the so-called 'ZEPP' or 'Zero Emission Power Plant', in which CO2 from the combustion process is captured and stored in the ground.
The meeting will discuss the possibilities offered by the Dutch (deep) subsoil for the application of CO2 storage (including quantities, selection criteria, safety, behaviour, monitoring), and will further explain the concept of the 'ZEPP' (including technologies, developments) therein.
