Climb to the top
To reach the top, you need to be supple of mind and body. Equipment with the best and most innovative materials is indispensable for this.
On 19 February 2015, practice and theory were linked. After lectures on the problems of the climbing shoe and innovation in sports equipment, participants were able to put themselves to the test and scramble to unprecedented heights on the climbing wall in The Hague. For many a groundbreaking experience. The drink and meal afterwards tasted extra good thanks to the effort, which of course involved relying on your climbing buddy's fuse.
Eleonora Westebring gave an interesting lecture on climbing and the suffering of climbers when it comes to the footwear they wear. Back in 2001, she created an innovative design for the climbing shoe, trying out the various prototypes herself. Now more than 10 years later, some facets of her design have been adopted but progress in that area is mouthwatering. Meanwhile, Eleonora runs her own business and a family and professional climbing has become more on a recreational level where she often swaps her climbing shoes for so-called 'barefoots' .
Arjen Jansen took us further into the world of sports engineering. Within TU Delft's Department of Industrial Design, he has set up a minor in sports engineering. Within the faculty, this gives innovation in the sports world a clear place and many companies and other parties therefore know where to find him with challenging issues. That innovation is often based on years-old facts of experience he demonstrated with a number of clever constructions and objects made by tribes from ancient times or under primitive conditions.
All in all, we look back on a successful joint activity of KIVI Net work Female Engineers and the KIVI Sports Engineering Department.

Description
To reach the summit, you need to be supple of mind and body. Equipment with the best and most innovative materials is indispensable for this. With this meeting, we want to give this subject hands and feet by inviting you to an exciting introduction to innovative climbing equipment coupled with the challenge of climbing to the summit
15.30 - 16.00
* Walk-in and payments
Location: Haagse Hogeschool, Johanna Westerdijkplein 75, The Hague
16.00 - 17.30
* Eleonora Westebring-van der Putten, former world-class climber (World Championships, World Cups), on a new climbing shoe design. Climbers are prone to foot problems, such as a crooked big toe (hallux valgus), because climbing shoes are too small and have an unnatural shape. From biomechanical research on the foot and shoe, a new design for the climbing shoe was distilled and shoe manufacturers La Sportiva and Boreal built prototypes using this knowledge. These have been tested by Eleonora.
* Arjen Jansen: Innovations in climbing
Location: Haagse Hogeschool: Johanna Westerdijkplein 75, Den Haag
17.30 - 19.00
* Climbing clinic where you can experience the acquired knowledge in practice. The climbing clinic is in the hands of the climbing hall itself, when registering please indicate if you want to participate in the climbing clinic. Free climbing is also possible.
Location: De Klimmuur The Hague - Hollands Spoor, Waldorpstraat 15 (5-minute walk from Haagse Hogeschool)
