Stratego for women: players in the field
Description
The strategic game in organisations consists of a playing field, players and the unwritten rules of the game. During this workshop, we will discuss the different players in the field: Greek goddesses and gods that guide our behaviour and characterise our repertoire of actions. As humans, we have all gods or goddesses within us to a greater or lesser extent. However, a number of gods and goddesses do 'well' within organisations, but more than half are not or hardly valued. Artemis is a goddess who does 'well' within organisations. However, it is also the same Artemis who at some point gets fed up with the rules of the game within organisations and chooses to work elsewhere or continue as her own entrepreneur. Zeus does a great job within organisations, but Zeus' pitfall is overconfidence. Poseidon is hardly appreciated when it comes to making a career, but his guts to make himself vulnerable is an asset to organisations. And Hestia, for example, moves more into the background and is therefore invisible. Because profiling is an important unwritten rule, she often feels undervalued even though it is she who has a lot of knowledge that can be valuable to the organisation.
We discuss these different gods and goddesses, their qualities and pitfalls, as well as their dynamics. During this interactive workshop, participants gain insight into which goddess(es) they dominate and which behaviour is effective when it comes to making a career within organisations. In addition, participants will gain insight into the dynamics with other gods and goddesses; how can you effectively influence the various players and achieve your goals.
The workshop will be given by Monic Bührs, founder and director of In Touch women resource management.
In 2007, Monic Bührs and Elisa de Groot published the book 'Stratego® for women'. This book was nominated for Management Book of the Year 2008 and has also been translated into English. Together with Yvette Berkel, they published the book 'Strategic negotiating for women' in 2009. The follow-up to the first book, Monic and Elisa published 'Strong Men Smart Women' in 2011. The title of the latest book is 'Women don't bluff and 14 other indispensable insights for men'.
For those who want, we will serve sandwiches between 6pm and 7pm. The workshop will start at 7pm.
